In the northern growing zone of the United States, fertilizer with crabgrass control is the first application of the year. Remember, if you applied seed late in the Fall or early Spring, crabgrass control will not allow the grass seed to germinate. Apply straight fertilizer with no crabgrass control if your seed has not germinated. Apply your crabgrass control before May in the Northern Zone.
